What is Accreditation?

Since 2014, IAPE has offered Accreditation to any law enforcement agency that meets strict standards related to best practices in evidence management.

Accreditation displays a commitment to excellence. It also demonstrates to your community that your agency is committed to protecting and preserving evidence that will ensure the integrity of the criminal justice process. Since the inception of the program, many agencies throughout the US and Internationally have invested in this commitment and accomplished this pinnacle achievement.

IAPE is committed to ensuring our Accreditation practices and processes continue to be the best in the industry. The IAPE Board of Directors is excited to announce they are hard at work developing a new, more user-friendly process for law enforcement agencies to achieve Accreditation. The new process will emphasize our revised standards to meet industry best practices, a tiered approach to support smaller agencies, and a Gold Standard for any agency demonstrating the highest achievement level.

What does our agency have to do to become accredited through IAPE?

Your agency needs to complete IAPE Accreditation Application© which can be found on this page. Once completed your agency will be sent an electronic copy of the IAPE Accreditation Pre-Assessment©, the IAPE Property and Evidence Standards© and other information regarding the program. Your agency needs to complete the IAPE Accreditation Pre-Assessment© and return it to your assigned IAPE Accreditation Team Leader© for his/her initial review. If it appears your agency is ready for review, your on-site visit will be arranged. The IAPE Accreditation Team Leader will complete his/her IAPE Property and Evidence Room Accreditation Report© with
his/her observations.

Upon reviewing the IAPE Property and Evidence Room Accreditation Report© with the IAPE Property and Evidence Room Accreditation Subcommittee©, a determination will be made for awarding IAPE Property and Evidence Room Accreditation©.
The decision on your agency’s IAPE Property and Evidence Room Accreditation© will be sent to your Agency Accreditation Manager©.

Is IAPE Property and Evidence Room Accreditation© expensive?

The cost of IAPE Property and Evidence Room Accreditation© begins as low as $6,300 plus reasonable travel expenses for one person. Please contact IAPE Property and Evidence Room Accreditation Program Manager© Alexis Grochmal using this form for more information.

To become a Certified Property and Evidence Specialist (CPES), you must be a current member, have taken the live 2-day or on line Property and Evidence Management class offered by IAPE, applied and passed the CPES test, and paid the fee for the certification. The requirements for CCPES are somewhat similar to the CPES. Please refer to the Certification page for more detailed information.

How do I apply to take the CPES Test?

Once your application and payment are received and processed you will be emailed a website link and log-in information. The entire test process takes place online and is text-based, so there are no internet connection speed issues.
