Muskogee, OK

One of the counts against the BA man is stolen valor.

MUSKOGEE – A former police officer facing state charges in connection with selling guns from a police evidence room saw additional charges filed against him in federal court. KL, 30, of Broken Arrow was charged in U.S. District Court with one count of possessing stolen firearms while he was a Muskogee police officer.

He is also charged with a misdemeanor count of stolen valor for falsely representing himself as a recipient of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Doug Horn said that stolen valor is not a frequently applied charge.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever charged it,” he said. Police seized dozens of guns from KL’s home earlier this year. Charges pending against him in Muskogee County District Court include embezzlement, grand larceny and false declaration of ownership.

He submitted his resignation in July. He also faces a misdemeanor charge in Tulsa County of impersonating a Tulsa police officer.
