Parma Heights Police Detective Matthew Bell was charged Thursday with four counts of theft related to stolen prescription drugs from the evidence room.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Charges were filed Thursday against a former Parma Heights detective suspected of stealing prescription drugs from the police department’s evidence room.
Detective Matthew Bell was charged with theft in office and three counts of theft spanning January through March. He is suspected of stealing Oxycontin, Vyvanse and Vicodin.
Bell was charged in a document known as a criminal information, which indicates he is cooperating with investigators and intends to plead guilty. Prosecutor’s spokesman Joe Frolik said Bell is expected to appear in Common Pleas Court on Aug. 7.
Bell resigned from the department in March. He was a seven-year veteran of the police force.
