HOOVER, Alabama — A forensic technician from Odenville is accused of stealing drugs from the evidence vault, Hoover police said.

According to Cpt. Gregg Rector, an investigation was launched after numerous items of drug chemistry went missing at the regional laboratory of the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. Following multiple interviews, 30-year-old Brandi Mikkel Hicks became the primary suspect and an arrest warrant was issued in late March. [She] was eventually arrested April 1 in Ensley.

Hicks, who refused to surrender to police, was apprehended April 1 in Ensley by the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Hicks is charged with trafficking heroin and cocaine, as well as first-degree and second-degree theft of property. She is currently being held in the Shelby County Jail on bonds totaling $2.045 million.
