OGDEN — The Weber County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into a former evidence room employee who may have been under the influence while on duty.

“She was in charge of the evidence room and there was evidence that she was possibly under the influence of an unknown substance,” Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Matt Jensen said Wednesday.

No one has been arrested, and the name of the woman was not released pending the outcome of the investigation.

Jensen could not say what substance the woman was believed to be under the influence of or what her demeanor was like that raises the suspicion of other employees.

An evidence audit team has now been assembled to go through every piece of evidence in the department to make sure whatever unknown substances the woman was allegedly taking weren’t stolen from the room, Jensen said.

“Multiple steps have been taken to ensure the integrity of evidence located inside of the evidence room,” according to the department.

Jensen said once evidence from the old room is checked off, it will be placed in a new, more secure evidence room.

Salt Lake police investigated a similar case in September when a civilian employee was investigated for allegedly being high at work.

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said there was no indication that any evidence had been tampered with, or that any of the employee’s drugs were obtained from the evidence room.

But to make sure, police had to review all 200,000 pieces of evidence in the room.
