BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/FOX58) — A senior Bakersfield Police Department officer was arrested Thursday for petty theft involving flushing drugs down a toilet last year, according to the department.
On November 11, 2021, officers served a search warrant of a suspect’s residence. The suspect then brandished a weapon at an officer and was arrested, said BPD.
Outside the view of other officers, officer Brendan Thebeau is accused opening a bag of around two ounces of legally possessed marijuana and flushing it down a toilet during the search, said the department. According to a news release, Theabeau’s body cam footage captured the senior officer committing the act, following a citizen’s complaint.
An investigation was conducted and the report was submitted to the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.
Thebeau is charged with petty theft and is on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
