Job Requirements: A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Two years of administrative or clerical experience.
Ability to obtain certification in Colorado Crime Information (CCIC), National Crime Information Center (NCIC), and National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS).
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with specialized software used for tracking and data management.
Experience accurately maintaining records and handling confidential information.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and professional correspondence, reports, and memoranda, and build positive working relationships with coworkers and the public.
Job Duties: Join the Durango Police Department as a Police Property Control Technician, where your work will directly impact the outcome of criminal investigations by ensuring the integrity and security of evidence. In this role, you’ll perform a range of technical duties, including processing, storing, protecting, and managing the release of evidence and property. Your attention to detail and commitment to following all applicable regulations will help maintain public trust and transparency in our community.
What You’ll Do in This Role:
Receive, document, and securely store evidence and property, including hazardous materials and body fluids. Transport items as needed.
Coordinate with property owners to release items and manage packaging and shipping of property or evidence.
Identify and prepare evidence for destruction or auction; communicate with property owners about the disposition of their items.
Conduct research on court cases to verify evidence disposition and statute limitations.
Maintain detailed records of property and evidence, generate reports, and manage data in a computer system.
Catalog, redact, and distribute video evidence as requested under the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA).
Provide information to the public on Police Department policies for property storage and release.
Handle non-emergency calls and direct inquiries to the appropriate agency or department.
Offer credible testimony in judicial hearings when required.
Take on special assignments and perform related duties as needed.
